Configuring Volusion Email for use with Microsoft Outlook
Last Updated 11/17/2009

Volusion offers many ways for users to access their Volusion-hosted email accounts such as logging into their mail account(s) using the Volusion Web Mail Interface. Users can access their Volusion Web Mail account at http://mail.yourdomain.com (be sure to substitute yourdomain.com with the actual Volusion store domain).

Another way users can access their Volusion-hosted email is through Microsoft Outlook (or any other POP-based email client such as Apple Mail). To configure MS Outlook to send/receive email from Volusion, do the following:

Setting up Your E-mail Account:

  • Launch MS Outlook. From the email accounts wizard, choose to add a new email account.
  • From Outlook's list of email server types, choose POP3.
  • In the email account settings under User Information, enter the user's full name and email address.
  • Under Logon Information enter the full email address for the account as the User Name as well as the password for that account.
  • Under Server Information make sure to enter mail.yourdomain.com for both the Incoming and Outgoing email server. (If your mail is being hosted with Rackspace mail, please refer to this article for the correct incoming/outgoing server information.)
  • Be sure to set yourdomain.com to the domain for your Volusion store.
  • Click the More Settings button.
  • Under the "More Settings - Outgoing Server" tab, check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
  • Under the "More Settings - Advanced" tab, set the Incoming Server port to 110 and the Outgoing server port to 25.
  • Click OK and apply these settings to the new account. You should now be able to send and receive email through your Volusion-hosted email via MS Outlook.

Notes on Setting Up Email:

These settings will apply for the majority of POP3-based email clients such as Thunderbird or Apple Mail. These settings should apply to mobile devices as well provided they support standard POP3 mail clients however Volusion does not provide support for configuring mobile devices for use with Volusion-hosted email. Please contact your mobile service provider for assistance in this respect.

Depending on your ISP, some users may experience a delay in emails being sent. This issue is due to constraints the ISP has placed on the SMTP protocol for their users. This is a confirmed issue with AT&T, SBC, Comcast and Insight Broadband services and it is likely an issue with many more. If you are experiencing this issue, please refer to this knowledge base article for information on how to address SMTP delays.
